Wanted: 1970 Rekord coil springs

Beitrag von OpelKurt »

Hello from the USA.

I have a 1970 2-door Rekord sedan, and I'm in need of front and rear suspension coil springs. Rear springs needed more urgently than front ones Thanks!

Do you want to use original parts or do you want to make the car lower?

Hey Kurt,
welcome to the forum!
I think, there are a lot of different coil springs, depending on youre motorization - besides other characteristics of your car.
The best way to identify the correct version is to have a look at the colour coding on the windings - which should be still visible if the coil springs weren't derustet/repainted in the past. Just have a look at the windings, there should be a uni- or bicoloured coding.
Best regards from Hamburg,
Wilhelm
P.S.: Where are you located in the US?

Thank for the replies so far. I'm hoping to find a set of standard, stock springs if possible.

It's a 1900 with a 4-speed manual. Some idiot used a torch to lower the car by distorting the original springs, which mangled them. Any paint marks were unfortunately burned off....

Wow, a beautiful one! Interesting, that the Rekord C model once found the way to the US.

I think, some guys in the forum can help you further!

Best regards,

Wilhelm

Olympia Rekords PI and PII were imported to the US in the late fifties until 1962. Any Rekords in the USA after 1962 were shipped by individual owners, as mine was.

We were lucky to receive Kadetts 1964-72, Ascona A and Manta A until 1975, and of course the GT.

Or from a Chevy Opala from Brazil. They are both based on the Rekord C / Commodore A, although with Chevy drivetrains but the suspension bits from a four cylinder car probably fits a Rekord.

Hello Kurt,
whats wrong with your Springs?

I changed my Springs in my Commodore Fastback because in my feeling the originals were too soft.

Now I got the Taxi/Trailer Springs and Im happy with it. The Originals are for sale.

The Springs are the Version with a yellow and a brown Spot on it. They were sold as the more sporty Variant:
4 24 313
gelber und brauner
Farbfleck

Hinterfeder (Schraubenfeder) satzweise verwenden
sportliche Federung für Rekord Sprint, Commodore GS Normalausführung und GS/E
Anm.: d. Webmaster: Nicht für Caravan und Lieferwagen

http://cokebottle-design.de/commodore_a ... nhalt.html

I dont see any sporty in it, but they are ok, soft. If you are interestet than sent me an PM.

Greets Dirk

This is how the Car stood with these Springs:

Thanks for the help everyone. I have a set of 4 used springs on the way. I'll post some pictures of the ruined ones after I pull them out.
