Commodore A GS

Beitrag von coralreef » 01.02.2013, 07:54

Hi

Thought i would start a build thread on my project, as the car has now arrived from Klaus in Germany.
Great shape i must say, some minor rust here and there, but other than that it is rock solid and running.

I have stripped the car from blankets and so on, as many of the window gaskets are old and bad = water in the car.

Basic work plan for the next days:
- Fix electrical/lights etc
- Clean/fix brakes
- Oil changes
- Review of all the rubber parts on the car(suspension, window gaskets, gaskets on lights...). It looks like a loong shopping list here ! I think i will post this list here, to get a clue on where to buy the cheapest !

This should hopefully be enough for a registration and some license plates...

More pictures to come soon !

Hi,

we know this car, cause it was advertised a quiet long time at mobile.de. By the way I bought my GS also from Klaus Britsch.
Good luck with your restoration.

Greetings Wolle

Well well - i guess this might become a help me out and i will show you my progress thread... Så the topic started here http://www.opel66-72.de/viewtopic.php?t=9409 will continue in this thread(keep it at one place).

The entire electrical system is now apart and i have most of the things up and running.
- Fog light on the rear will be removed(ugly !)
- New horns needed
- Rear window heating to be fixed
- Heating to be fixed
- Still some bulbs to be changed
- Cabin light to be fixed

Here are some pictures of the strip down and my dashboard !

Here is the relay box - some relays must be missing right ? And the switch for the front fog lights ?

Double horns - original ???

Also the heating element of the car has been pulled out, as it could run. The motor was stuck but it can now turn by hand, still need to test it. The metal parts must be sanded and painted next week before reinstallation. Again this is not a 100% rebuild, just getting license plates and the car registred(a 110% strip down will be performed next winter).

Still need to pull this one out - looks like in BAD shape :

Bild

And yes the rubber parts near the windows are bad - where can these be found the cheapest ??? I am thinking about redoing ALL of them to keep water out !

Also this grill thing in front of the radiator is comming out - this will be a summer car !!!

Many many things to do . That needs really time to get a good result at the end of your project.

Yes there are some work to be done here :)

Well got most of the electrical system working today, except the blinkers

Emergency blink is running, left blink is running - but the car wont blink right :?: I measured the wires on the stearing wheel, contacts are ok...
What can be wrong ?

+One more thing...

The dashboard lamp for handbrake AND clutch - how is that to work ? Handbrake sure that makes sense - handbrake active, then the light is on !

But the "kupplungskontrolleuchtenschalter" ??
- Lamp on when pedal active(pressed down) ?
- Or lamp on when pedal not active(not pressed down) ?

And why ???

As the clutch degenerates over time, the pedal moves up. At a certain position the lamp lights up, telling you it's time to adjust or exchange your clutch.

You can check it by lifting the pedal manually

hi,

lamp for the "kupplungspedal" ist on when the pedal ist too high.

there must be a switch down by the pedal, like the switch for the breaklights.

by the way, you need the electrical schematic for your commodors gs.

this one must be the right for your car.

when you give me your e-mail, then i try to send it to you.

First of all thanks for the diagrams, i have now fixed the electricals back to original AND working condition - everything from light in Kofferraum :) to front lights !

Only missing the cabine light(defect door switches), blinker warnschalter(have the switch, just need to build it in) and the cabine heating !

I have pulled out the cigar lighter, ashtray light and radio... I will later modify my dash to not contain these... Radio(with CD) will be placed in glovecompartment.

Next will be the brakes and an oil change - and then take it for a drive(with out license plates so just a short one :)) !

Bild

"New" used set of carpet to be cleaned and mounted. Sound proffing material will have to wait until the complete restore next winter !

Bild

Heating/coling system cleaned for rust, painted. All wires lubricated, water valve near engine fixed. Awaiting a new fan, then to be mounted !
