VW T1 Splitbus

Beitrag von coralreef »

Hi all

After finishing my Commodore a, i have decided to do a VW T1 bus restoration - it fits the needs of having a big family and car shows ;)

But holy crap they are priced high - even the ones in worst condition(i mean really really bad condition)...

So if anyone in here knows of some one who knows some one who has one - then let me know !

Price range ~10k euro(i hope...)

I promise to restore it well

"Dubbeldörr" , how cool sounds this!

@ Joan, same Hype i can´t understand for all of this rusty Shit all over the world, when the Cars where made in USA, Italy, Untertürkheim or Zuffenhausen or whatever you want. Articles of daily use, like a Glas, Spoon, Fork, Knife. Not more.

T1 Split Window is some of this Cars which the Students in USA drove during there Study. And now on there Midlife Crisis with Big Dollar Ego´s they try to turn back time. Useless.

Metto, Land Rover Defenders, T1s, FMRs, 911s, etc. may be typical MCVs (Midlife Crisis Vehicles)

But you cannot compare a Glas (e.g. Glas V8) to a Spoon!

Hello coralreef,

A fine alternative for a rotten t1 would be a dodge RAM van. I have a spare one from 1987
In The Color orange matt, flared fenders, chrome wheels, And a interieur that was
modified around The eighties from a stoned kid with long floored carpets and a lila
dashboard  The chassis is rust free And if you use it as a Daily Driver you can install
a LPG liquid gas thing. The 318 v8 purrs like a kitten - brakes work - 727 transmission Need
An overhaul or change of fluid - occationally, i slips a bit. Electric needs work.

The van has a lifted roof with 1,60 Meter space - a turnable captains chair

The Perfect Ride for Moving, vacation, Festivals ect.

Can send you pics And more details via Email.

Cheers

another alternative could be a bedford blitz. its not that overprized, even more rare and (to me) it looks just better than a t1. aaand it has an opel-sign on it, although it's an bedford :D and that's also the bad part of it: no "german enineering". (for example: an engineswap to a 2.0l opel engine is always an good idea..)
example (of course in orange  ):
beddy.jpg
for around 5k you can get an driveable bus with a minimum of work to do

Guys, coralreef wants a T1!

10 years ago a colleage of mine sold a really good T1 bus from 1962 (ex Fire Brigade) for € 7000.-. These times are gone. Please excuse my joke about MCV (Midlife Crisis Vehicle). Me myself I have also nice T1-memories. I made my first driving trials at the age of 13 with my grandfather´s T1 pickup and the hearse of our community was a very early T1, too. For me personally, these cars would be far to expensive right now.

cheers

Fritz

The Bedford is nice !

Well i have also a t1 with folding roof And Busch-Windows in stock..but its completely Restored
And has disk-brakes - Porsche calipers And a 160hp 2,4 Liter Type 4 Engine. Double Webbers.
And its its slightly More expensive...

The Dodge van has more space And more punch And The cost is about 10% compared with The t1

Or does he...

Yes i do, but then again i see the trouble on that marked. You need to be VERY lucky to find one at a fair price to work on...

I will keep on looking, else i have to go to number 2 car on my list... A mid 1960s chevy impala 8)
