Rekord C clock

Beitrag von xpbernardo »

I´m trying to understand how the Rekord C clock works. I´m giving it 12V but it seems dead. But if I accidently vibrate it in my hand, it works for some seconds...
Trying to open it too

Clock has two parts: Clock itself is fully mechanical, has a loading spring, which keeps the clock ticking. Then there is electro-mechanical part - simple coil system, which winds that loading spring when it reaches near-zero level. Loading spring has a lever attached to it, which activates the electric coil part.

When you shake the clock, the internal parts most likely winds enough in speed that the clock runs for a while.

Open the clock and examine the coil and it's activation part. In easiest case you have a broken electric connection there and the coil is not powered up.

There are three small nuts behind the clock. They keep the white plastic rear cover in place. If clock has never been opened before, one of the nuts is covered with small blue'ish plastic shield. Crack that shield off and you find the third nut.

Got it. I´m no watchmaker but seems pretty normal. Spring in place and I can actuate de movement . So the clock is spring loaded and when it´s almost unwind it "charges" again with 12V when the car is working?
Connector is positive and earth is the frame itself?. I´m trying to make it work with a 12Vsource

Yes, the electric part coil system makes the spring loaded again.

Clock has a connection to battery all the time, so it's running as long as car battery is connected (or battery runs empty enough - which wont happen soon with clock only).

Yes.

I think the problem is in this piece. Is moving freely and it doesn´t make sense...

I think that lever should be pushing against the teeths in that nearby gear... But can't confirm now as I don't have clock in my hands at the moment. Maybe tomorrow...

I am not so deep in this topic. Only thing I know is, VDO Kienzele is able to repair, VDO Borg not.

User mp3 reworked 2 of my damaged clocks to get one working.

Maybe this hints will help you with your clock.

Have a nice Day
